How to file a consumer court complaint online in India

Under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 you can file a consumer complaint online yourself, without a lawyer, on the government e-Daakhil portal. Almost every successful case starts with one thing though: a dated written grievance sent to the company before you file. That is the step RefundPe does for you, free.

Start with the mandatory first step

Paste what went wrong and RefundPe writes a firm grievance letter citing the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, emails it to the company's grievance officer, keeps you copied, and escalates to the regulator if the company stays silent. If the money still does not come back, you already have the paper trail your consumer court filing needs.

The filing process

1. Send a written grievance to the company first

A consumer commission expects to see that you gave the company a chance to fix the problem. A dated written complaint to the company's grievance officer, with your order number and the amount, becomes the first document in your file. RefundPe writes and sends this letter for you and keeps you copied on it.

2. Wait for the reply and keep every response

Save the company's reply, or the silence. A refusal, a vague answer or no answer for weeks is exactly the evidence a commission looks for. RefundPe stores each email on your case timeline so the trail stays in one place.

3. Escalate to the sector regulator where one exists

Banking and UPI disputes go to the RBI Ombudsman, airlines to DGCA, telecom to TRAI, insurance to IRDAI, and anything else can go to the National Consumer Helpline. Many refunds are released at this stage without a court filing at all.

4. File the consumer complaint online on e-Daakhil

The government's e-Daakhil portal (edaakhil.nic.in) lets you file with the District, State or National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission online. You register, choose the commission for your district, upload your complaint and evidence, and pay the court fee. Complaints are filed by value: District up to INR 50 lakh, State above that up to INR 2 crore, National above INR 2 crore.

5. Attach your evidence bundle

Your filing is only as strong as its annexures: the invoice or payment proof, the grievance letter you sent, the company's reply, and a short statement of what you want (refund, compensation, costs). Everything RefundPe sends and receives on your case can be attached as it is.

Which commission handles your complaint

CommissionValue of the claim
District CommissionUp to INR 50 lakh
State CommissionAbove INR 50 lakh up to INR 2 crore
National CommissionAbove INR 2 crore

A complaint can generally be filed within two years of the date the problem arose, and you may file where you live or work, not only where the company is based. Official filing details are on edaakhil.nic.in.

Most refunds never reach a courtroom

A properly written grievance letter that names the Act, the amount and a deadline is usually enough to move a company's grievance desk. Try that first, and keep filing as the fallback. RefundPe handles the letters, the reminders and the regulator escalation for free.
